City Councils in 3 Vermont Cities Call for Abolishing F-35 Training at Burlington Airport
Senators Bernie Sanders and Peter Welch reject the Burlington, Winooski, & South Burlington F-35 resolutions. But Congresswoman Becca Balint will request a new mission for Vermont Air National Guard!
See the Letter from Mayor Kristine Lott and the full text of the resolution unanimously adopted by the City Council of Winooski. Burlington and South Burlington adopted similar resolutions.
All 3 resolutions call on Vermont’s Congressional Delegation to request that the Air Force replace the F-35 jets with a mission that is safe for the 7,000 people who live within the 5 mile long by 1 mile wide oval-shaped extreme F-35 noise zone that surrounds the Burlington Airport’s runway.
The WCAX TV News story features interviews with Senators Bernie Sanders and Peter Welch and Congresswoman Becca Balint reacting to passage of the resolutions by the city councils in the 3 cities.
The US Air Force itself described how training with the 115-decibel F-35 in densely populated cities could impair the cognitive development of the 1,300 Vermont children living in that oval-shaped extreme noise zone.
Congresswoman Becca Balint told the WCAX reporter that she will request a new mission for the Air Guard. She showed that she cares, and she deserves strong encouragement. Her action to stop the brutal treatment can make a difference in the lives of those 1,300 Vermont children and their families.
By contrast, Bernie Sanders’ response in the WCAX video shows him fronting for the targeting of the brains and ears of the 1,300 Vermont children, and he says that it’s for the Air Force and for NATO. What nonsense! Reprehensible. Call his office, and leave a message for Bernie to join with Becca in calling for a new mission at 802-862-0697.
Peter Welch’s response shows him collaborating in targeting the cognitive development of children for supposed economic benefits. How repugnant! Hurting children for money? Disgraceful. Call and leave a message for Peter at 802-863-2525.
Encourage Bernie and Peter to demand a non-flying mission if a city-compatible flying mission is not available for the Vermont Air National Guard. Tell them you want them to tell Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall to:
Abolish F-35 training at BTV and in any populated area.
Stop harming our Vermont children with 115-decibel F-35 training in our cities.
Comply with the military’s own discipline that prohibits targeting civilians.
End the vicious daily military operations assaulting our children in Vermont.
Cancel the F-35 training in our cities now: It’s illegal, immoral, and unjust.
Locating such dangerous equipment in a city violates the military’s own discipline. It causes unnecessary suffering. It violates distinction.
Blessings to those city councils. As Margaret Meade observed: "Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed people to change the world. In fact, it is the only thing that ever has." It is actions like these, across the US, that will show the cost of war-mongering.
Shame on Bernie and Welch. We can talk about the noise pollution but the real issue is what it is leaving behind for particle matter. And how this is affecting our soil and air quality. Let’s hope the testing is being done. Most importantly looking and learning at what’s occurring in Madison Wisconsin. They are fighting for clean water. This is due to F35 flying there. VT has failed clean water act. There are solutions . Let’s not blame farmers. Our most precious resource is being tainted.
