F35 Takeoff Noise Alongside Runway
This measurement was made at the end of Kirby Dr alongside the midpoint of the runway, a popular spot for plane-watchers. ‘Alongside’ the airport boundary, not particularly close to the runway itself.
The jets began rotation just past this parking lot. I used C weighting (retaining most of the low-frequencies in the decibel figures). I was entirely off-axis from the engine roar, and the planes were moving by so quickly the high volumes dropped off quickly.
Like the measurements at either end of the runway, this doesn’t accurately represent the volume and duration of the planes once they’re aloft and over neighborhoods north or south of the airport.
