Stop the Escalating War in Ukraine. Stop the US Funding. And stop the F-35
CNN Poll: 55% of Americans oppose any further US funding for the war
Skywatch hosts Jimmy Leas and Danaka Katovich interview guest Medea Benjamin, who is Co-founder of CODEPINK, Women for Peace in the latest episode on CCTV.
Opposition to the continually escalating war with Russia in Ukraine is growing: A CNN poll shows that 55% of Americans say the US Congress should not authorize additional funding to support Ukraine. This is a reversal of public support from February of last year.
More than $113 billion has so far been spent on this war. Money needed for health care, housing, and education here at home. Instead of spending more and escalating the proxy war against Russia we need to end the war now.
It’s not just the money. The war is needlessly killing tens of thousands of Ukrainians and Russians. The US is using and abusing Ukraine “to weaken Russia.” With no end in site.
Skywatch guest, Media Benjamin talks about the campaign Code Pink is launching, calling on Congress to do what the majority of Americans want: stop the funding for the war now.
With public opinion turned sharply against further funding for the war in Ukraine the administration is doubling down, requesting $24 billion more. The time has come for building antiwar action. Public pressure is needed on both pro-war parties. Pressure is needed on Bernie Sanders, Peter Welch, and Becca Balint to speak and vote against further funding.
Code Pink and a coalition of national and local organizations are planning actions in DC and around the country during the week of October 1 to 8 calling for an end to US funding for the war now. Among Vermonters traveling to DC to participate in actions there on October 3rd and 4th will be Jimmy Leas.
After decades of pointless wars in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and now Ukraine, the public is increasingly ready to take on the military-industrial complex. To demand a halt to the endless wars and a halt to the wasteful military spending—amounting to nearly a trillion dollars a year. As one example, each F-35 costs around $100 million, and the F-35 program is currently expected to cost $1.7 Trillion.
For Vermonters the wars have come home. The F-35 training from the airport in South Burlington daily assaults 6,663 of our own civilians with ear- and-brain damaging extreme 115-decibel jet noise a dozen times a day. The F-35 keeps 44 acres where 200 homes once stood devoid of desperately needed housing. Each F-35 is a planet killer, burning 22 gallons during each minute of flight.
End the war on Vermonters. End the war on the planet. End the war in Ukraine.
Write or call your public servants and demand an immediate halt to F-35 training in cities.
