The Guard Responds with Marguerite Adelman and James Marc Leas on the ABC Café Podcast
Different letter, same tired story
On May 21, 2021, Maj. Gen. Greg Knight issued the Guard’s official response to Winooski’s resolution asking them to halt F-35 training flights over its densely populated city. To his credit, Maj. Gen. Knight was the only public official to respond to the city’s request (Sanders, Leahy, Scott, and Weinberger all declined). Unfortunately, his response follows the same tired script that we’ve been given for years:
We are working on noise studies and a plan to mitigate noise.
There’s a long tradition of VTANG being a fighter wing.
It’s a federal mission with federal funding.
Without federal funding, the Guard wouldn’t be able to provide emergency assistance to Vermonters.
In ABC Café's second episode about the F-35 in Burlington, we talk to Marguerite Adelman and James Marc Leas about the Guard's response to the recent Winooski ballot measure, the lack of response from our elected officials, and whose door we need to bang on to get these damn planes out of our cities.
